To celebrate its 100th Anniversary, the University Interscholastic League chose 100 students from across the state to participate in its Elite 100 program, designed to bring the top students in Texas together to discuss the UIL programs and plan out changes that could be beneficial to the program over the next 100 years.

BHS student Meredith Shaw was chosen from the hundreds of applicants to be a part of the Elite 100. Meredith's selection was based on her successful participation in UIL academics, where she has been a part of the state qualifying One Act Play for two years and has competed in debate, journalism, literary criticism, prose interpretation. Meredith is also active in UIL sports.

Students worked in groups to discuss every aspect of UIL competition from the aspect of the student competitor. At the end of the camp, groups met with the UIL Legislative Board to present their ideas.

"I was proud of Meredith for being chosen to be a part of this group and for giving up three days of her summer to do so," UIL coordinator Melonie Menefee said. "She is an excellent example of a well-rounded, hard-working student. We are lucky to have her as a part of BHS."
