Oakwood Police Department gets upgrade

By Melissa Missildine

Thanks largely to the efforts of the interim Chief of Police, the Oakwood Police Department is moving on up. The interim Chief has no desire to see his name in the paper. He doesn't see how that could be important. He has a job to do. Nothing more and nothing less.

When his old police department in Conroe held an auction a few weeks ago, he put in a call to his old buddies and was able to pick up a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, fully loaded with police equipment for a mere $5000. The equipment alone should have cost more than that! The vehicle came with all of the maintenance logs to show that it had a complete overhaul from bumper to bumper every 3,000 miles. (That's more than you could ask from any of those used car registration sites.)

The City Council was quick to back up the Chief's plan to acquire this vehicle. This Tahoe was a K-9 unit. It does have a cage but not a back seat; therefore, is not currently equipped to hold prisoners. According to the Chief, it should be easy to convert. There is always the police cruiser, if needed, until the conversion. The Chief is eager to get the Oakwood Police Department decals for it but that's not stopping him from using this vehicle to Oakwood’s advantage right now.
