Fish Fry Benefit for Karen Jones

By Sherry Matney

A few weeks ago Karen Jones was like you and me in many ways. She went to her job at Bald Prairie Café, kissed her husband when she came in from work, cooked for her family and played with her grandkids. But that all had to be put on hold for the time being because she had an aneurism in the right side of her brain and after surgery she had one on the left side.

Karen’s roots run deep in Leon County, growing up in Marquez. She attended school at Leon. Sons Keith Johnson, 33, and Curtis Johnson, 30, both also graduated from Leon. Younger sons Steven and Drake Jones are senior and freshman, respectively.

Karen’s mother is Sue Brown who is a Marquez native.

Friends of Karen are having a Fish Fry Benefit on July 18th at the Marquez VFD. All proceeds will go to Karen and her family to help with medical expenses.

Fish will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will include the trimmings and a drink for $7.00.

To add to the fun and to bring in more funds the friends are planning a baked goods auction. If you are interested in donating a baked good please contact: Sissy Jarvis at 979-777-5085; Robbie Ginsel at 903-208-0036; Cassandra Noey at 903-208- 3118.
