All board members were present for the July meeting of the Board of ESD #4, with the exception of Joel Echols. After opening ceremonies, the Board approved the minutes of the previous meetings and accepted the Treasurer’s report as presented by Vera Barnett. She went to her job at Bald Prairie Café, kissed her husband when she came in from work, cooked for her family and played with her grandkids. On a hot, sticky, summer evening the Centerville City Council breezed through their regular meeting with little or no conflict. The Council held its meeting on Thursday, July 9 in the Municipal Building Meeting Room. With no one present for public comments the Council approved last month’s minutes and immediately went to a slide presentation by attorney Charley Johnson. Johnson had suggestions for building ordinances which the Council had requested. He expects to have a draft ready by the next meeting. More ... Neel Chevrolet in Oakwood was vandalized this week. I was driving home from an entirely-too-long day at the Skate Plex in Tyler when I got stuck at the light in Oakwood. While (not too patiently) I was waiting my turn to turn, I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye. The second truck in the lot facing Hwy 79 had a suspicious-looking substance all over the windshield and the hood. Bells went off in my head. I grabbed my cell and called the dealership, then casually asked them if they had been vandalized. They replied, "Not that we know of. Why?". More ... It's harvest time at Oakwood's Project Save-A-Life Community Garden. This garden was planted by children in the community for the sole purpose of distribution to the senior citizens and shutins of the Oakwood area. More ... The Centerville ISD Board of Trustees held its regular meeting at the Centerville High School Library on July 8, 2009. Board members in attendance were Danny Lacey, Charles Nash, Joe Langley, Mike Asby, Craig Smith, Tuffy Loftin and Kathy Gresham. More ... School may not start for more than a month, but journalism students have been hard at work this summer. Besides working to complete the high school yearbook and elementary and junior high memory books, they also attended camp in Austin last month to begin working on their publications for next year.
