Nine foot alligator visits Oakwood

Recently, an approximately 9 ft. alligator was spotted just a few feet off the road down FM 542 on the outskirts of Oakwood. Being located right next to the road and only a couple of hundred feet from a cluster of homes, Greg Smith, an Oakwood Volunteer Firefighter, said that he and friend, Joe Minter were concerned about public safety. They decided to try to corral the animal until they could get in touch with the Game Warden. Two arrested in Freestone drug bust

Weapons seized

by Freestone County Sheriff’s Department

Sheriff’s Deputies executed a Search Warrant at a rural residence on FM-489 during the afternoon hours of July 10th. Two people were arrested as a result of the mentioned Search Warrant. Several weapons were seized, as well as electronic scales, small baggies for packaging and a container with a liquid weighing approximately 50 grams, which field tested positive as belonging to the Methamphetamine group. •	EDS board hears citizen’s request for open meetings

All board members were present for the July meeting of the Board of ESD #4, with the exception of Joel Echols. After opening ceremonies, the Board approved the minutes of the previous meetings and accepted the Treasurer’s report as presented by Vera Barnett. A $22,000 check was written to Legacy EMS for their services in June, leaving a balance of $500 in the account. More...

Funeral services for Lauretha (Harvey) Lacey Johnson, age 54, of Centerville, Texas were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. Elder C.D. Evans officiated at the service and the burial was in the Burton Cemetery which is located in south Leon County. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. More...
