Leon County celebrates 4th of July with parade

by Sherry Matney

Little Miss Sparkles wasn’t too excited about the whole thing. Sherry’s Shots Little Miss Sparkles wasn’t too excited about the whole thing. Sherry’s Shots The day was a scorcher as is befitting east/central Texas in July. Vendors sold their goodies and the crowds waited for the real start of the day’s activities. And then the siren blasted signaling the start of the parade. Led by Old Glory and the Texas Flag the procession slowly made its way up Highway 75 from Centerville High School, turned right on Highway 7 and circled the Courthouse Square.

Kids were allowed to run to the street to pick up candy and the floats passed by.

The night before there had been a street dance on the square and following the parade other activities would take place, including fireworks at dark, but the parade was central to the day’s celebration.
