Freestone County Sheriff’s Report
by Sheriff Ralph Billings
Ralph Billings
Ninty year old calls from S. Bateman, power outage due to a blown transformer, suffering greatly from the heat….Brought to Jail Lobby where cooler…..A little Iced Tea and air conditioning perked him up.
DPS intercepts Hit and Run Driver from accident in Navarro County, has same follow him back to Navarro….. And, I suppose the best comment I might make, and the most pertinent, I will rely upon my very limited knowledge of musical themes for old time TV shows…..I refer to Jack Webb’s Dragnet from many years ago……Dum…., De, Dum, Dum!
Say folks, we’re having a hot, dry summer and we seem to have a larger than normal number of people, mostly older folks, who are falling. Let’s keep an eye on one another, drink plenty… .I mean PLENTY, of water, dress cool. And remember, that yard doesn’t have to be weedeated and mowed during the hot part of the day. Take it easy….in the shade, by the fan or under that air conditioning unit.
Man who claimed a few days ago of being robbed, assaulted, cash stolen, kidnapped, etc…..Now in Jail. Confessed that he lied about all of it to cover the fact that he was drunk and wrecked his own vehicle. What’s he in Jail for? False Report To Police Officer. He wasted many hours of officer’s time.
FEMS meets Greyhound Bus on IH-45, passenger unresponsive. Oakwood VFD assists with finding elderly man walking in the Trinity River Bottom. He wasn’t lost. He was just out for a stroll to reminisce…..He’d logged all that country in days gone by during his youth.
Armed Robbery at CEFCO in Wortham, WPD Officers to same.
Overhead powerline slapping trees, making sparks, S. Bateman, Fairfield VFD and Oncor to same.
Teague man calls with an age old complaint……Wife has the money and won’t let him have it!.....TPD Solly to same.
That Donnie Farris is one smooth operator….Mechanics all day….Cooks all night. Her Honor, the Judge (JP Theresa Farris) has smooth got him talked into the art of baking. I had a sample of his homemade Peach Pound Cake…..Just like Campbell’s Soup…..M’mmm, m’mmm good! Wonder how he is on biscuits?
Call comes in from Fair Grounds, three kids in tree when it fell, Fairfield VFD to same. Deputies to rural residence on report two men had forced their way into a residence, started beating boyfriend. The other party told just the opposite. Deputy Willis to heated verbal problems between two parties, Shanks.
Man calls, distraught, has had troubles with the love of his life for the past year. No, he didn’t want an ambulance. No, he said nothing about taking his own life….. But did say he just wanted to die……Well, we try never to assist with that thought…. But say Sport, life is too short just to wish it away like that…..Horsefeathers. Get on with living. You can’t mope around for another year. Put a smile on your mug and get back in the mainstream. You weren’t put on this earth to mope, you were put here to live. So do that. Start now! A good smile on your face will put one on the Good Man Up Above!
Report comes in from Teague on scam involving grants, claimed to be through the U.S. Government…..Of course, you have to send them $99.00 first…..Don’t fall for it. Give them no information nor money. Whoever heard of somebody offering to give you money for free….But you have to give them money first?
Report of horse stolen, FM-1367, the rope is still there, so must be stolen….. Called back, Horse’s middle name is Houdini, horse recovered, must have slipped out of the rope, knot came loose or something, horse home again.
Deputy Aldrich assists Lady not strong enough to loosen the lug nuts on her flat tire, IH-45.
Lady unresponsive in Dew, 911 call occasioned FEMS, Dep. Robert Willis and Dew VFD to scene. Robert was first to arrive and started CPR. Unfortunately his efforts were in vain.
Had warned about a Scam involving COLLECT PHONE CALLS FROM HARRIS COUNTY JAIL some time back. Had two complaints on it yesterday….. One of the complaining parties my wife! She received three calls, same day. If you get them, refuse the collect call. They’re just trying to get in your pocketbook.
Lady calls from Fairfield, someone is just outside in her bushes. Shhhh! Shhhh! Don’t want them hear me….. Oh, Heavens! Never mind, it’s just a family of ‘coons! Yes Ma’am.
Horses, heat, wild cows and lots of palavering and visiting by the observers all three nights of the Annual Teague Fourth of July Rodeo. As always, the performance went off without a hitch, much enjoyed by one and all. Pickup man Danny Clyde Turner gets everybody to their feet as he went down in the Wild Cow Milking, but he came out quick. A wellbehaved, orderly gathering. Had a good visit with lots of people present, but really got a kick visiting with Scott Glick, comparing notes on hand milking a cow!
Deputy Cory House on FCR-961, attempts to stop a Dodge pickup, driver runs, wrecks into a pipe fence. A baggie of Meth found in the seat. In Jail now, Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest.
Streetman VFD to persistent grassfire, FM-416. TPD Howard locates vehicle reported stolen, guilty party was locked in room. When started out of house, grabbed a knife, stuck it to his own throat, threatened to cut his own goozle. Officer grabs his arm, the fight was on. Pepper Sprayed. In Jail now….. Unauthorized Use of a Mtr. Vehicle, Assault on Public Servant. He’s caused lots of troubles in the past, far too much of it for his own relatives.
Two Deputies involved a total of 38 hours in trying to get crazy woman admitted into MHMR facility. I’ve written before that MHMR has undergone many changes through the year, lack of funding is the problem. Our Deputies have better things to do than be involved this number of hours just to get a mentally unbalanced individual into a facility!
TPD Howard to report of missing newspaper racks. Deputies Willis and Aldrich arrest drunk pair of brothers in Rest Area, IH-45, both drunk, one urinating in public in front of car with load of small kids. While coming to Jailhouse, one threatens Deputy Aldrich. In Jail now, two charges apiece. Well, between the Rodeos, Parade, and National Holiday, it was a busy week in the County. I hope everyone had a pleasurable 4th of July, and took the time to Give Thanks for those who went before us…. and made it possible that our Nation might have this day and date to celebrate annually. God Bless the memory of every one of them. Next week is the Dogan Alumni Gathering, the next will be the Ike Carden Rodeo…..
Until Next Week….. RALPH BILLINGS
