Fourth of July 5K draws good crowd in Centerville

Centerville and Buffalo teens cleaned up in the teen division at the Fourth of July 5K race in Centerville. In the girls’ division (bottom to top), CHS grad Isabel Reyes was the top finisher, followed by Monica Reyes and Lexie Wall. BHS’ Chad Nelson led the guys, followed by BHS’ Calvin Young and Centerville’s Daniel Reyes. Centerville and Buffalo teens cleaned up in the teen division at the Fourth of July 5K race in Centerville. In the girls’ division (bottom to top), CHS grad Isabel Reyes was the top finisher, followed by Monica Reyes and Lexie Wall. BHS’ Chad Nelson led the guys, followed by BHS’ Calvin Young and Centerville’s Daniel Reyes. Centerville’s July 4th celebration kicked off with the annual Stu’s Country Mile 5K race and One Mile Fun Run early Saturday morning. There was a good crowd of participants for the events, named in memory of Centerville’s Stuart Gregory.

Some Buffalo participants added a fun twist to the 5K race. Although not officially competing for a time, four individuals (Carl Nelson, Ryan Cheek, Kirby McNair and Dustin Mc- Cabe) formed a relay team to try to beat Chad Nelson. The foursome turned in a good effort, but Chad still managed to outpace them by about thirty seconds.

The top finisher in the 5K race was Sean O’Reilly in a time of 18:23, and Lashawn Johnson led the women with a time of 22:34. Top finishers in the age group divisions were:

WOMENS DIVISION: (Ages 12-20) 1st- Isabel Reyes (23:25), 2nd- Monica Reyes (25:45), 3rd- Lexie Wall (26:44); (Ages 21-30) 1st- Lashawn Johnson (22:34), 2nd- Angela Watson (24:31), 3rd- Mary Kim Webb (26:05). (Ages 31-40) 1st-

Kristin Epps (25:55), 2nd- Becky Wall (26:44), 3rd- Paige McKinney (29:18); (Ages 51-60) 1st- Colleen Spencer (36:36)
