A traffic stop on I-45 Friday morning escalated into a much more serious situation for a Beaumont man travelling through our county. The man chose to evade arrest and a three-hour manhunt followed. The suspect was ultimately apprehended by a Leon County resident.   More...

Funeral services for John Wallace “Buddy” Bain, Jr., age 46, of Leona were held at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. Rev. Dean Easterling, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Centerville, officiated and burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery located south of Centerville. More...
American Legion Post #335   Our meeting will be held on Saturday July 11th at 9am at the Centerville municipal building located across from the Post Office. We would like to invite our members and their wives to attend. We will have coffee and donuts. Our August meeting will be Saturday August 1st at 6pm as we will return to our regular schedule.   Our July 4th raffle was a great success and the winner of the deer feeder and 200lbs of corn was Don Hord of Pratt, Kansas. This week’s cook really loves to cook and according to Wendy Neyland, County Extension Agent, she is a true Leon County Cook.   Mildred Stell makes sour dough bread every week. She and her husband Rex eat as much as they can and they give the rest away. Mildred not only cooks bread but she loves to cook brownies from scratch. No mixes for this lady. She entered several items in the Leon County Home and Garden Fair and won Best of Class for her muffins and a blue ribbon for her bars.   More...
Area Little League baseball teams have been competing very successfully in tournament action.   MACHINE PITCH   The Leon County Machine Pitch Tournament was held last week in Centerville. The Gold Bison team coached by Russell Jonas took first place by defeating the Purple Bison, coached by Tommy Davis. Both teams will advance to the District Tournament July 13-18, hosted by Buffalo.   More...
