      Ladies golf news June 25, 2009 - The 9-Hole players had 8 players. They played "Low Gross". First Place was won by Becca Neukom with 52. Betty Von Bieberstein took 2nd Place with 57, and Marcia Waller took 3rd place. Low putts for the day went to Pat Mossman. Next week will be "Field Shots". LADIES 9-HOLE STARTS AT 8:00 AM

      Little league baseball was in FULL swing during the past weekend as tournaments were held throughout the area. Competition was tough -- and so was the 100+ degree weather, but the kids and fans of the Leon County Youth Association persevered.

Local AAU select basketball team qualifies for Nationals
      Basketball may be considered a winter sport, but some local athletes approach it as a year-round game, and roundball is definitely alive and well this summer for one group of local guys. An elite 18-U AAU team known as the Air Jam Ballers, coached by Errol Jones and composed of players from Buffalo and Fort Worth, has been competing very successfully.

Leon County runners compete in Bremond’s Polish Pickle Run
      Several members of the Leon County Running Club competed in the 21st Annual Polish Pickle Run in Bremond, Texas on Saturday. Over 500 runners turned out for the 5K and Kids’ Fun Run. Buffalo’s Chad Nelson trimmed thirty seconds off of his time on this course last year, covering the 3.1 mile distance in 17:59, a personal record and his first time to break the 18-minute barrier. Nelson finished 9th overall and first in his 15-19 age division.
