Chute ‘n the Bull
      In April 2009, I attended a meeting at which water issues were the central theme. There were several farmers and ranchers in attendance who did not realize that they should have a water permit for their wells or the streams/ rivers from which irrigation was being used. So what is the law in Oklahoma and Texas related to water rights, and do you need a permit for your operation? These issues were covered at the meeting, but may not be widely disseminated to agriculture producers so the answers may be beneficial to some of you.

Pvt. Mark Rogers II graduates combat training
      Army Pvt. Mark S. Rogers II has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

TDA Market Recap June 22, 2009
     AUSTIN – (June 22, 2009) For the week ending June 20, 2009, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were mostly steady to $3 lower per hundredweight, with a few areas $2 higher. Recent declines in finished cattle prices and ongoing losses by cattle feeders continue to pressure the market. Fed cattle prices were near unchanged from a week ago. Cotton prices and grain prices continued to declined this week. As for futures markets, feeder cattle, finished cattle and lumber were higher, while wheat, corn and cotton were lower.

Much of Texas suffers drought-like conditions
      COLLEGE STATION - Without rain and with temperatures soaring to the high 90s or topping 100, large parts of the state continued to suffer drought-like conditions, reported Texas AgriLife Extension Service personnel. Conditions in the North, South Plains, Rolling Plains and Panhandle regions were better as far as soil moisture levels were concerned. Soils in the Rolling Plains were saturated, and North Texas welcomed drier weather after deluges of rain in early May.
