Guindola Harris Houston

Funeral services for Guindola Harris Houston, age 78, of Crockett and formerly from Centerville were held at 10 AM, Tuesday morning, June 16th at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Rev. John Goss, pastor of the Central Baptist Church in Crockett, officiated and the interment followed in the North Creek Cemetery in rural northeast Leon County.

Visitation was held at 2 PM until 8 PM on Monday, June 15th and the family was present to receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM.

Guindola Harris Houston was born in Damascus, Arkansas on December 29, 1930. Her parents were Charlie A. and Henrietta (Shilling) Chrisco. Guin grew up in Arkansas where she met and married Arlie F. Harris. They lived about 45 years in Houston, Texas. Guin retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone on February 13, 1982. Arlie had retired from the City of Houston in 1981. They moved to Leon County, east of Centerville, and lived for several years. They then moved to Arkansas for a short time and, finally, to Crockett. Guin was a member of Central Baptist Church in Crockett. She was very faithful in her church work and made many close friends in Crockett.

Arlie died in 2001. A couple of years later, Guin married a dear longtime friend, Norman Houston. He passed away in 2006. Guin passed away in a Crockett hospital on June 12, 2009. In addition to her two husbands, Guin was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Guindola Harris Houston is survived by a sister, Mary Duncan, of California; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Norman Wayne and Peggy Houston of Houston, Texas, Carolyn Kaye Burden of Livingston, Texas and Sam and Sandra Houston of Cleveland, Texas and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers: Norman L. Houston II, Victor L. Burden, James D. Houston, Sonny Allbright, Gerald Harris and Sam Houston.
