NRG and Reliant Energy employees volunteer on Global Giving Day

HOUSTON June 18, 2009—Employees from NRG Texas and Reliant Energy are picking up paint brushes, hammers, wetland plants and sacks of food to support neighborhoods in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, Austin as well as Fort Bend, Limestone, Freestone and Leon counties for volunteer activities to mark the inaugural NRG Companywide Global Giving Community Day.

“We are excited to have Reliant Energy join NRG Texas to help our neighbors on Global Giving Community Day,” said Kevin Howell, President of NRG’s operations in Texas.

Global Giving Community Day was inaugurated at the NRG headquarters in 2008 and followed later that year by NRG Texas.

In Texas, with Reliant Energy now part of the NRG family, the Company has the opportunity to expand this day of giving with approximately 400 employees working on more than a dozen outreach projects throughout the state.

“Support for the communities in which we live and work has long been a core value of Reliant Energy and NRG,” said Reliant Energy President Jason Few.

This year’s Global Giving Community Day opportunities in Texas include:

Freestone County – Employees will renovate the local food bank, the Lord’s Storehouse, and clean up and landscape a local cemetery.

Limestone County Habitat for Humanity – Employees will work on a house being built in partnership with a local family in need.

Leon County – Employees will renovate a safe harbor house for survivors of domestic violence and their children and also landscape the home of a local elderly woman.
