Monday, June 15, at the Normangee High School Ag Building, 19 “Kids Kampers” learned about Incredible Insects! Mrs. Novalene Thurston, along with Sara Smith and Carole Huebner, helped the kids learn about the different parts, kinds, and growth cycle of insects. The children made 2 forays into the woods and around the grounds of Normangee ISD to find dif- ferent insects to learn about. Participants attempted to catch the various life stages of the different insects, so that they could distinguish between the different insect life cycle stages. By the end of the camp the participants were able to distinguish insects from arthropods, and from other insects. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Christy Capps, Normangee ISD Ag Teacher, for the use of her classroom and sponsor Jill Failing, who made it possible for each participant to take home their own magnifying bug jars. Extension programs serve of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
