      Everyone is welcome to join Evangelist Larry Allen for revival at 7:00pm, June 21-27 at The Miracle Church located at 1544 W. Broad St. (Hwy 79) in Oakwood to hear and receive the word of God and be blessed. Saturday, June 27th will be dedicated as a special musical night. Kids, hop aboard the “Boomerang Express” Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church in Buffalo. It runs June 22-26 from 9am to noon. Call 903-322-4332.

Angel Food Ministries comes to Leon County
      Angel Food Ministries, the nationwide food ministry with a servant's heart, now has a local host site at Celebration Church in Buffalo. Site Director Vanessa Brown will be taking orders from families, individuals, churches and benevolent organizations at the Leon County location. Jim Reeves and Cheyenne
      As a one-time reporter, I covered the funerals of numerous East Texans, but the one I remember the most was that of Jim Reeves, the iconic country singer who grew up at Galloway in Panola County. Reeves and his pianist, Dean Manuel, died in 1964 when his private plane crashed near Nashville, Tennessee.

Summertime and the livin’ is easy
      June 21 was a busy Sunday this year. It was Father’s Day, the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. The thermometer at Citizen’s State Bank in Buffalo showed 101 at about 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. In Leon County ,Texas we do not need anyone to tell us that summer is here. At 12:45 a.m. Central Daylight Savings Time the summer solstice occurred, which means the official beginning of summer for those north of the equator and wintertime for the folks “down under”.

Like Father, Like Son
      Father’s Day afternoon found Kent and Dylan St. Pe’ sharing one of their favorite activities: throwing a baseball around. Kent, a 1986 graduate of Buffalo High School, was a three-sport letterman ‘back in the day’ playing football, basketball and baseball for the Bison. He recalls that “James Mae (Henson) made us run track, too!” Kent and his wife Leslee, a teacher at Buffalo Junior High, now have two children, and the apples didn’t fall far from the tree.

How I Spent my Summer Vacation
      You’ve heard the lament: “Teenagers today -- what are we to DO about them?” Well, speaking as the mother, foster mother, step-mother and host mother of roughly two dozen teens (and champion of many others), I wish to take the stand in their defense. Eat what you can, can what you can’t
      On June 19, 2009 the Lone Rangers Master Gardeners of Leon County sponsored a Home Canning Seminar at the Centerville Municipal Building. There was a standing room only crowd on hand to learn the secrets that were shared. The presentation began with president Mary Sue Watson introducing speakers Dan Wingerson, Charlene Manning and Cynthia Torno. Elaine Trefry was scheduled to speak but was unable to attend because of illness.

Buffalo Masonic Lodge awards service pins
      The Buffalo Masonic Lodge awarded service pins on Saturday, June 20, to members for service and membership of 50, 40, and 25 years. One member, Don McKinney will be eligible for a sixty year pin on June 24th. Receiving fifty year pins were James Anders and Wallace Jones. Calvin Williams, Rusk Blasingame (who will turn 100 years in January), Kenneth Jones, and Henry Meek received forty year pins. Awards for 25 years were given to: Scott Peavy, Earle Odom, Robert Pitman, Gary Helmcamp, Charles Sims, Charles M. Knight, Joe Graves and Ray Steelman.
