Nelson wins age group title at Kosse 5K

Buffalo distance runner Chad Nelson competed in the Kosse 5K Fun Run last Saturday, where he finished second overall and took first place in his age group. His time of 18:31 approximated his personal best at that distance.

Nelson is known for his comedic antics off the track, but the 17-year-old’s slapstick routine last Saturday was entirely unintentional. Thinking that the race started at 8:00 a.m., he arrived just before 7:30, allowing for a good stretch and a leisurely warm-up run. Seeing a crowd of about 100 racers gathering at the starting line, he realized the race was about to begin. Nelson was hopping out of the car, putting on his shoes, and stretching as he ran to the start line. He got there just as the starter’s gun went off.
