Ralph Billings Ralph Billings Sheriff’s Report Number 441- 16 year old, in County visiting from Ft. Worth, reported as Runaway, FCR- 930. Deputies Elom and Shaw to Family Troubles, FM-833. Man in Wortham vomiting blood, Mexia EMS to same. Lady calls from S. 1st, Wortham…..Has problem with Pit Bull in her yard, not hers, he has been shot. Loose cow, FM-27. THDEMS to chest pains, Spruce Street. Wortham resident arrives home to find door open, someone had attempted to move her big TV. TPD Solly to Tyler Street, vehicle unlock. Teague VFD to FM-1451, smoke alarms going crazy, no flames, but every alarm going off simultaneously.

Man arrested in Wortham due to Hit and Run accident by WPD Peters. Man would not comply with any request or demand by Officer, kept reaching in his pocket repeatedly, unknown whether it was a weapon. This is a bad predicament for a policeman to be in…..Shoot, or don’t shoot? It weighs heavily on your mind…..in that slit second that you have to make a decision. Anyway, the Hit and Runner refused to show his hands, refused to lay on the ground, kept reaching for his pocket, etc., etc. Did I mention he kept taunting the Officer to just shoot him? Yep, he did that, too, multiple times. TPD Sykora next arrived on scene….Then our Hit and Runner pulled a butcher knife out of his pocket. Things stepped up two more clicks on the scale. Sykora pulled out his Taser….One, two, three, Beam me up, Mr. Spock…. Energize. Maybe I should say de-energize, because our butcher-knife wielding bad guy droppecd like a sack of Taters, all 50 pounds. In Jail now, Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant. And, as is so often the case, he’s normally a nice fellow, just twisted off due to someone, as it turned out, owing him money and not paying.

FPD Kindon arrests man on multiple traffic Warrants. THDEMS to Asthma Troubles, Kilgore Trailer Park. Baby inside locked car, local Gym, window broken to extract. FPD and Dep. House to Gilberto’s one trying to start a fight with another. Say, Sport, just order three more enchiladas instead, guaranteed easier and cheaper than going to Jail. Phone lines torn down by truck, N. Fairway. TPD to S. 9th, bat troubles……No, no, not baseball…..One of those little flying mammals that come out in the evening. Loose, white Pit Bull on Elm in Teague, tearing up trash, being a nuisance. Young man strikes Historic Chatauqua Pavillion in Teague City Park, drives off, traced down, tells conflicting stories, now in Jail. That old pavilion has been there a long time. If my memory is correct, William Jennings Bryan, Presidential candidate multiple times (four, I think), made famous after his death due to a well-known movie about the Scopes Monkey Trial….. Welp, anyway, he spoke there about a century ago.

FEMS, DPS Adams and Zotz, and Dew VFD to accident, Mile 183. Deputy Clayton Aldrich arrests man on multiple Warrants out of Limestone County, South 75. Patient with bad case of Potty Mouth at ER, FPD to same. You know…..Grandma used to use a bar of soap for such as that. Pretty effective.

Lady booked into Jail on both Anderson and Freestone County Warrants by Deputy Don Anderson. Deputy Hendrix arrests Lady, FCR-930, Theft Warrant. Deputy Travis Robertson to/from Harris County, prisoner transport.

On a little trip this week, Darnelle and myself, an Aunt and Uncle, Jimmie and Charlene, from Love County, Oklahoma. They’d never been into the Hill Country….. but can’t say that anymore. Salado, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, San Marcos, Comfort, Georgetown, Camp Verde and all points in between. Tuesday through Saturday. One of the most enjoyable trips that I can remember. We talked, spun yarns, joked, looked at lots of stuff and had a heckuva time. I wish every one of you who read this could have been along. Jimmie and Charlene continued East by themselves, headed for Mississippi, newly purchased GPS and all.

Our thoughts are with the Steen Family this week. As of this afternoon, Charles slightly improved, and everyone wishes it to continue.

By the time you read this, our County Fair will be in Full Swing……Come on out, take in the Rodeo, see the animals being shown by our 4-H and FFA’ers, visit through the camp sites, you’ll enjoy yourself…..Can’t keep from it.

Until Next Week….. RALPH BILLINGS
