     The GLORY BOUND SINGERS will be performing at the Shiloh Community Center on Saturday, June 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. The meal for the evening will be hamburgers, chips, a drink and homemade ice cream. Cost will be $6.00 per plate. The Shiloh Community Center is located just off Hwy. 39 South of Mexia. Take the Shiloh Cemetery Exit and follow the crowd. Ceremonies honor Confederate veterans
      Four Confederate military grave markers were dedicated and all Confederate military veterans were honored Saturday June 6th morning in a ceremony conducted by Sons of Confederate Veterans that included rifle and cannon salutes. The ceremony was at Winn Cemetery three miles south of Marquez, Texas in which the veterans are buried.

Hot Licks at Tommy’s Music
      Tommy Pierce had a full house on Saturday, June 6, for his monthly jam session at Tommy’s Music in Centerville. Part of the excitement was because a TV station had promised to send a reporter to cover the session. However, as luck would have it, the reporter was called to an accident and could not make it. If anyone was disappointed it was difficult to tell. The sweet sound of classic country music rang through the store and into the streets of Centerville.

The June Flea Market–hot and busy
      Saturday, June 13 was hot, dry and breezy in Jewett, Texas, exactly what you would expect for this time of year in this part of the state. According to vendors this was the best-attended flea market in months, with the largest crowd at the eating places. Michael and Allison Adams are from Thornton, Texas and have been shopping at the flea market for eighteen years. Their kids also like to look for bargains on this family day out.

Nors-MacNabb Engagement
      Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Nors, Sr. of West would like to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Teresa Elizabeth Nors, to Robert Carl MacNabb of Buffalo, Texas. Teresa (Teri) is the granddaughter of Helen Lenart of Abbott, Texas and the late Bernard R. Lenart, and the late John and Emily Nors. She is a 2003 graduate of West High School and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is a middle school and high school math teacher at Hearne I.S.D.

      Mr. and Mrs. Randy M. Dodd of Buffalo, Texas, are pleased to announce the engagement of his daughter, Natalie Jean, to Christopher Alan Hildebrand, son of Mr. and Mrs. David B. Hildebrand of Fort Worth, Texas. Natalie is the daughter of the late Mrs. Phyllis Dodd and the granddaughter of the late James and Viola Dodd and the late Thomas and Vergie Williams. She is a 2001 graduate of Red Oak High School and a 2006 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

      A Celebration of Life memorial service for James N. Wavrick age 76, of Buffalo will be held 11 AM Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Lone Star Community Center in Flo. Chaplin Jason Whitt with Providence Hospice of Mexia will officiate.

Lone Star Community Center a “Grimey”place on Saturday
      Over 100 folks of Grimes heritage met at the Lone Star Community Center for their annual family reunion. The Grimes family has been in Leon County since the late 1800s and have many descendants scattered throughout the Leon County communities. Winnie Hodges, longtime resident of Oakwood, is among the elders of the group now, along with her brother Tommy Grimes who lives in Robbins.
