City of Centerville swears in new council member
City Attorney Charley Johnson serves both the Centerville and Buffalo Communities. Sherry's Shots The Centerville City Council held its regular meeting on Thursday, June 4 in the Municipal Building Meeting Room and the first order of business was to swear in Council members. Tammie Mason was sworn in to fill a spot vacated last year. John Franks and Lawrence Johnson were returning City Council members. John Franks was unanimously appointed Mayor Pro-Tem.
John Franks made a request on behalf of his father, Johnny Franks. The senior Franks is currently serving as Chief of the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department as well as Fire Marshall. Franks asked that John Adams assume the roll of Fire Marshall and Johnny Franks would remain as Fire Chief. The Council agreed that this would be a sound idea since many documents frequently must be signed by both officers.
Councilman John Franks provided the Council with the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department's 2008 Annual Report of Activities. The organization conducted 28 drills and responded to 174 emergency calls. Officers are: Chairman - Chief Johnny Franks; Vice Chairman - Brent Ryder; Liaison - Clint Adams; Secretary - Tyson Henson; Treasurer - Assistant Chief John Adams; Captain - John Franks. Mayor N. R. Goolsby thanked Franks for the report and commented the Fire Department for its good works.

In New Business City Secretary Lindsie Wood announced that Judge Byron Ryder has invited the City Council to a meeting with a meal on June 11 to discuss an upcoming Music Festival.
City Attorney Charley Johnson updated the Council on his attempt to reach the owner of the Centerville Plaza Apartments which burned last year. Johnson contacted owner E. H. Glockzin and was advised that the property is currently in the hands of a creditor. Johnson will keep the Council apprized of the on-going situation. The Council agreed with it would be prudent to have Johnson draw up ordinances with restrictions and requirements to make it easier to handle any future instances such as this.
