The Leon Independent School Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on June 8, 2009 in the School Administration Building. The Jewett Meeting of the Government Body was held on June 8, 2009 at the Jewett City Hall. The first item under New Business was the "Oath of Office". At that point City Secretary Virginia Sitton swore in returning Mayor Judi Kirkpatrick; following with Kirkpatrick swearing in three aldermen. More ... The Centerville City Council held its regular meeting on Thursday, June 4 in the Municipal Building Meeting Room and the first order of business was to swear in Council members. Tammie Mason was sworn in to fill a spot vacated last year. John Franks and Lawrence Johnson were returning City Council members. John Franks was unanimously appointed Mayor Pro-Tem. More ... Last week's paper contained an article describing a wildflower tour sponsored the previous week by the Texas Agrilife Extension Service. However there was an unexpected sequel to this tour. Tuesday night we stayed in Fredericksburg. After supper some of us were sitting out on the front gallery of the motel, rocking, swaping lies, and solving the problems of the world. More ... During their regular May 21 meeting, the members of Colonel George Dashiell Chapter, DAR, learned of the many ways to use the DAR Library, located in Washington D.C. Guest Speaker, Carol Goeking, Texas Society DAR State Librarian, presented a thorough discussion of methods to research through this library. This DAR Library was organized in 1896 with 128 books. More ... Saturday, June 6 was the date and Community National Bank in Buffalo was the place. The occasion was the bank's annual Customer Appreciation Day featuring piping hot fish with all the trimmings. Employees and officers from several locations were on hand to serve the customers and friends in the Buffalo community. More ... In two separate but similar ceremonies the Centerville and Buffalo Eastern Star Chapters installed new officers for the upcoming year. Both ceremonies were beautiful, formal and ritualistic with many of the same individuals serving in both chapters. More ... |
