Classroom tests narrowed the field to the top spellers in each grade, and those students competed before an audience of their fellow students and parents. Fifth grade teacher Kay Young was the bee's pronouncer and Kathy Beshears, Lisa Boudiette, Carla Henson, Shelly Nunley, Karey Reeder and Rhonda Treece served on the panel of judges.
The competition was stiff, and in some grades the bee was quite lengthy before the top three were determined. Winners in their respective grades were: - FIRST GRADE: (1st) Jordan Early, (2nd) Asa Henson, (3rd) Matthew Gibson - SECOND GRADE: (1st) Kayleigh Rhodes, (2nd) Jose Sanchez, (3rd) Mackenzie Morales - THIRD GRADE: (1st) Natalie Uptmor, (2nd) Fernando Mancillo, (3rd) Victoria Castillo - FOURTH GRADE: (1st) Bryce Ryder, (2nd) Dani St. Pe', (3rd) Tori Tollett - FIFTH GRADE: (1st) Sarah Burchfield, (2nd) Kendall Morales, (3rd) Mason Jonas.
