FFA Banquet celebrates a big year
Stepping down after 27 years as a BHS ag teacher, Jimmy Henson (LEFT) was honored by his students and by his teaching partner Ed Phillips, then Henson had a few words to share. Van'Go' photos The Buffalo FFA held their annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 19th at the Buffalo Civic Center. The 2008-09 FFA officers, led by President Amy Terry, presided over the ceremony. Highlights of the event included a slide show, recognition of the members' honors and awards throughout the year, and a barbeque dinner catered by Shepps BBQ in Palestine.
This year's Star Chapter Farmer Degree went to Casey Helfenbein, and Taylor McGill was selected for the Star Greenhand Degree. Jacob Rodell was recognized as the Chapter's outstanding fundraiser. The William H. Ryder Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Omero Dominguez.
Honored guest at the banquet was former Ag Advisor Jimmy Henson, who retired at mid-term after 27 years of service to BISD. The FFA officers made over Henson with a speeches and gifts, Ed Phillips pontificated on their 24 years as teaching partners, then Henson himself shared a few parting words with his students.
