Barton Staff to Hold 'County Day' in Leon County
      Congressman Joe Barton's District Assistant, Karla Carr, will be at the Centerville Housing Authority, 130 East Main Street, Centerville, on Wednesday, May 20, from noon until 2pm to meet with anyone having concerns with the federal government.

Buckling Down on Those Not Buckling Up
      Texas drivers and passengers should always wear their seat belts or be ready to face the consequences. That's the message ALL Leon County Law Enforcement Agencies will be sending this May, as they buckle down on all motorists not buckling up - but especially teens.

Oakwood man found dead under house
      On Friday morning, May 8, authorities were called to the home of 30-year-old Robert Kurt Burnett when he was found dead under his house. Burnett lived with his parents Mike and Marilyn Landers in the city of Oakwood. Burnett's body was taken to the Medical Examiner in Dallas for an autopsy and the results are pending.

Dew ISD passes $3,000,000 school bond
      The Dew Independent School District voted 75 to 51 to approve a $3,000,000 bond. Funds from the sale of the bond will be used to purchase new school busses and to make improvements to the current facility.

No change in BISD Board
      The makeup of the Buffalo ISD School Board remained unchanged after Saturday's election. In un- contested races, Gene Pruitt, Jr was re-elected to Position 3 with 408 votes and Willie Gilliam held his position with 402 votes.

Voting at the Lone Star Community Center
      Although there was only one item on the ballot, turnout was good for the community of Flo at the Lone Star Community Center in Saturday's election. The question was whether or not the northeastern portion of Leon County wanted an Emergency Services District (ESD) to fund ambulance services.

Centerville School Board retains incumbents
      Centerville Independent School District held a School Board Election on May 9, 2009. Charles Nash, incumbent for Position 3 was unopposed and received 159 votes. For Position 4 challenger Forrest Glen Washington, Sr. received 8 votes and incumbent Mike Asby garnered 175.
