Leon County 4-H on target for State

The District 8 4-H Shooting Sports Meet was held at the Leon County 4-H Shooting Sports Range on Saturday, April 25th. The Shooting Sports program teaches and allows participants to learn and practice the skills they have acquired over the course of the project. They learn skills such as timing, managing your breathing, and patience. There were 2 competitions that each person could choose to participate in. These were the Target Rifle competition, and the Light Rifle Competition. Target Rifle is a competition that uses a rifle with open sites (no scope), and Light Rifle is a competition that allows the use of a scope on the rifle. In the Junior Division for Light Rifle Leon County 4-H had three teams competing. Leon County 4-H teams took 2nd, 4th, and 5th. The second place team was comprised of 4-H members Morgan Mulson, Faith Lipsey, Tobe Johnson, and Heath Williams. The fourth place team was comprised of 4-H members Kendal Dunn, Joshua Embry, Cullen Douget, and Samantha Wogerer. The fifth place team was comprised of 4-H members Austin Jacobs, Ross Beshears, Seth Folsom, and Kyle Simpson. In the Intermediate Division for Light Rifle Leon County 4-H teams placed 1st, 4th, and 5th. The first place team was comprised of 4-H members Tyler Jacobs, Marc, McLeod, Louis Collins, and Logan Freeman. The fourth place team was comprised of 4-H members Nathaniel Young, Cameron Litchfield, Zachary Cornish, and Leana Gore. The fifth place team was comprised of 4-H members Kyle Reeder, Payton Mulson, and Andy Johnson. In the Senior Division for Light Rifle Leon County 4-H took 2nd & 3rd. The second place team was comprised of 4-H members Calvin Young, Michael Morelock, Kyle Stout, and Cassie Ferguson. The third place team was made up of 4-H members Rion Ussery, Travis Eldridge, Regan Robertson, and Paige Eldridge.

For the Target Rifle in the Intermediate Division Leon County 4-H took 2nd place and the team was comprised of 4-H members Tyler Jacobs, Cameron Litchfield, and Louis Collins. For the Senior Division Leon County 4-H took both first and second place and qualified to represent the district at the state shoot in June. The first place team was 4-H members Calvin Young, Michael Morelock, Travis Eldridge, and Cassie Ferguson. The second place team was made up of 4-H members Regan Robertson, Kyle Stout, and Paige Eldridge. Congratulations to the 4-H members and their coaches Mike Port, Ron Morelock, and Steve Myers for a great job representing the Leon County 4-H program. This past year the shooting sports program has undergone a tremendous amount of growth. To meet the needs of this growth several local community leaders stepped up to help and we would like to thank them for their efforts Allen Helmcamp, Nucor Steel, Vulcraft Texas, Richard Jacobs and Crew, Buffalo Industrial Supply, Tony Idol and Crew, Joe Hughes, Oakwood School FFA, Pioneer Steel - Waco, Leon County Buck Masters, Wesley Henson, Leon County Delta Waterfowl, Jeff Beshears, Buffalo Sporting Goods & Leon County Gun Range, Archie VanWey, Mark Smith and crew, Freedom Air Conditioning, RSC, Cindy Mulson, Oakwood Steel & Fabrication INC, Davis Feed & Fertilizer Buffalo, Brookshire Brothers-Buffalo, Churches Chicken- Buffalo, Oakwood Super Pantry, Wal-Mart Distribution Center #6836, and Buffalo Animal Hospital . Thanks to the very generous donors the Leon County Shooting Sports program now has its own range to call home.
