Swine flu cancels goat show in Lufkin
      The ETGRA must sadly announce the cancellation of the Boer Goat Show in Lufkin this weekend. The County Judge has announced that all events at the Expo Center and other county facilities have been cancelled due to two cases of swine flu in the county.

Leon County 4-H on target for State
      The District 8 4-H Shooting Sports Meet was held at the Leon County 4-H Shooting Sports Range on Saturday, April 25th. The Shooting Sports program teaches and allows participants to learn and practice the skills they have acquired over the course of the project. They learn skills such as timing, managing your breathing, and patience.

Leon County Texas Master Gardeners honored at State Conference!!!!
      A record breaking 157 entries were received and put in the hands of the judges from nine different states. Congrats to the Leon County group that received 3rd place award in the Educational project area with their annual Pumpkin Patch activities.

      You may catch the flu from your sick hunting buddy, but there's no evidence that you will catch it from domestic or wild hogs, according to the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC). There is no evidence that the new strain of H1N1 influenza is in domestic or wild hogs. This disease is being spread from person to person.

Tree farm takes root in Leon County
      In the short six years that John and Kathy Avara have been in Leon County, they have probably grown more trees than the country's most famous arboriculturist -- Johnny Appleseed. The Avaras' tree farm, Riley Fuzzel Farm, is located on Highway 79 a few miles west of Oakwood on 100 acres that used to be an old horse farm.
