      AUSTIN -- The Texas average rig count as of April 17 was 380, representing about 41 percent of all active land rigs in the United States. In the last 12 months, total Texas reported production was 347 million barrels of oil and 7.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Texas natural gas production represents approximately 29 percent of total U.S. natural gas demand.

      MARCH PERMITS TO DRILL The Commission issued a total of 1,033 original drilling permits in March 2009 compared to 1,754 in March 2008. The March total included 840 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 21 to re-enter existing well bores, and 172 for re-completions.

Wild Hogs: No Indication of Flu Danger
      You may catch the flu from your sick hunting buddy, but there's no evidence that you will catch it from domestic or wild hogs, according to the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC). There is no evidence that the new strain of H1N1 influenza is in domestic or wild hogs. This disease is being spread from person to person.
