Bison men finish 4th in district, qualify six for Regional Meet
Van'Go'Photo Chad Nelson's hard work is paying off with another trip to Regionals. The Bison men began district competition at Groveton on Monday with a slow start but before all was said and done, BHS had qualified their largest team for the Regional Qualifiers Meet in several years. Six Bison men will be competing at Whitehouse on May 1-2, with another going as an alternate.
VARSITY ACTION
In the field events and race preliminaries on Monday, Jordan Canady placed 4th in the Triple Jump, making him the first alternate at Regionals. Chad Nelson, who has dominated the 3200M race all season, apparently suffered from dehydration and struggled in the final lap, finishing in 4th place as first alternate for Regionals.
Things took a turn for the better on Thurday. Nelson placed 2nd in the 1600M Run, qualifying for Regionals. Canady qualified in the 200M Dash with a 3rd place finish.
Esteban Espinoza's 4th place finish in the 800M Run made him a first alternate. Rigo Andrade took 5th place in the 800M Run.
The Bison came on strong in the relays. The 4x200M Relay qualified with a 3rd place finish, sending Andrew Houston, Saxton Sims, Micah Burnside-Jones and Jordan Canady to Regionals. The 4x100M Relay also qualified. Houston, Canady, Jorge Herrera and Sims comprised that team.
The Varsity boys finished 4th overall as a team.
JUNIOR VARSITY
In junior varsity field events, Ryan Read took 6th in the long jump and 4th in the triple jump. On the track, D.J. Jackson placed 4th in the 110M High Hurdles and 6th in the 300M Intermediate Hurdles. Distance man Auri Talliens took 3rd in the 3200M Run. Clayton Smith was 3rd in the 200M Dash.
