Straight from The Horse's Mouth
Laura St. John Life in the bookstore has never been dull. We have drawn prodigious local talent for our open mic nites, have daily drive-bys from very far and wide, and we even have a family of fairies in house. For several months we've been living in peace, but recently all has not been completely well. Books go missing constantly. The espresso machine blinks off with no seeming good cause. The grinder acts as if its inner workings have been tampered with. I have spoken to the fairy family about these matters of frustration and am quite certain they are not malicious types. This led me to wonder if 'something else' had moved in. Then, early last Saturday, while we were waiting for the tornado something flashed by in my peripheral vision. It was about ten inches tall, spiky and green and gave me the total creeps. I shivered and then exhaled a defeated sigh, because I know how difficult it is to remove these annoying vermin.
Now, I know about rat traps, raccoon traps and even hog traps, but how does one catch a gremlin and what do you do with it once you've trapped it? There are no gremlin catchers in the phone book. I've heard of no government agency that catches them, nor met a civilian gremlin catcher, although we did have a Big-Foot Hunter in the store a few weeks ago. (No kidding! His business card said he was a biologist and he hunts Sasquatch in East Texas. Perhaps I should give him a call.)
Never the less, we have an infestation of gremlins. I do not know if it is just the one or if there are many, but one is too much. If any of you have experience with gremlins please let me know how to deal with this worriment. I would hate to be the cause of a city wide outbreak. We must be rid of them as soon as possible.
This Thursday night at 6:00 we are hosting our first Art Group. Please do not feel afraid of the gremlins. Just bring your art and yourself (and maybe a friend or two) and we will find safety in our numbers. Friday night is Trivial Pursuit Game Night. The foodie theme is "anything that comes out of trees"; it's Arbor Day. Come play and perhaps you'll glimpse the gremlins. If nothing else you will see for yourself that there is always something exciting going on at THM.
