Two prospects for Chief of Police attend Oakwood City Council The Oakwood City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Oakwood City Hall. Present were Mayor Vicki Stroud, David Neel, Barry Olive and Mike Heck- athorn. Dorothy Bell and Bobbye Bullock were absent. Although not the first item discussed, on the top of everyone's mind was the vacancy left by Police Chief Oly Ivy when he was arrested and fired on Monday, April 6. The council went into closed session to discuss the next steps for the Oakwood Police Department. Lewis Miller presented his resume for the Chief position and Lonnie Bostick assured the council that he would be interested in the position as well. Janice Innes was present to discuss ambulance service availability. Mayor Stroud informed the Council that Legacy Ambulance Services, out of Bryan-College Station, had offered to cover the area until May elections. She also reported that there will be one ambulance from that service stationed in Buffalo until May 9, 2009. If the ESD is not approved, Legacy may withdraw its service. In other business the Council approved an ordinance for FEMA; approved a resolution for the Hurricane Ike Block Grant; discussed the easement on Whitt St. A motion was made to table the issue until more information could be gathered. |
