      The members of the Buffalo City Council are holding their cards close to their chests these days. Monday evening's meeting was short 'n sweet -- in that it was without interruption or conflict.

Oakwood City Council takes it on the chin and looks for new chief
      Last Monday morning the city of Oakwood was awakened with a shock. Their Chief of Police, Oly Ivy, had been arrested the night before and taken to the Anderson County jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. News spread quickly and within hours details of the arrest were leaking out around the county.

Local Governments Receive $409 Million in Sales Tax Revenue
      (AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today the state received $1.58 billion in sales tax revenue in March, down 3.8 percent compared to March 2008. "Continued weakness in many important sectors, such as retail trade, mining and construction, resulted in a significant decrease in March sales tax collections," Combs said.

Centerville City cancels election on May 9
      The City of Centerville City Council held its regular meeting on Thursday, April 9, 2009 in the Municipal Building Meeting Room. There was no one available for Public Comments. City Secretary Lindsie Wood presented for approval a letter and order requesting cancellation of Election on May 9, 2009. The reason for the cancellation if there is no opposition.

Business as usual for Commissioners Court
      Judge Byron Ryder and the Leon County commissioners began the April 13th meeting of the Commissioners Court with a prayer for Precinct 3 Commissioner Mark Ivey, who was undergoing surgery later in the day. Reports and routine housekeeping matters filled much of the meeting.

For fourth year Marathon Oil sponsors Relay for Life
      On April 2, 2009 the Relay For Life of Leon County Event Committee accepted a $5,000 check from Marathon Oil, the diamond event sponsors for the 4th annual Relay For Life of Leon County. Marathon Oil has partnered with both Leon County and Freestone County for their Relay events.

Good news for Flo Water
Water rationing ends
      Those present at the monthly meeting of the Flo Water Board of Directors got good news and then even better news. The first was that the upgrades that have had the Flo wells on limited output and created the necessity of water rationing, have been finished and that water rationing is now ended.
