Puppy update

By Sherry Matney

Last week you read about six puppies which were dumped on the county road that runs by my house. And this week I can report that all the puppies now have homes, and I trust, good ones. I received several calls from interested parties, not all wanting to adopt a puppy. One called to say that the Palestine Animal Shelter will take the dogs for a small fee.

The first three were given away as a result of last week's article. My grandkids and I took the other three to the parking lot at Brookshire Brothers and gave them away there.

Nick Carter, from Centerville, informed me that there is indeed a law against dumping animals. It is Penal Code 42.092 and it deals with cruelty to non-livestock animals. If you get caught the first time it is a misdemeanor but by the third time the offence is considered a felony and is punishable with jail time.

Thanks for your help and concern. If you see someone dumping a dog or cat, call the Sheriff's Department.
