Ernest Byfield Taylor
Mr. Taylor passed away on Friday, March 27, 2009, at the St. Josephs Health Center in Bryan, TX. He was born in Abilene on April 25, 1926 and was the only child of Earnest and Callie Taylor. He lived in Houston from the age of two until he retired in 1989. Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston in 1950. After graduation, he worked for several years as a civil engineer. When Tennessee Gas Transmissions ordered computers, Taylor was one of their first computer programmers. Through the years until 1989, he worked as a computer programmer, project engineer and system analyst. He had always wanted to live in the country so in 1964, the Taylors purchased land outside of Jewett. In 1989 when he retired, he became a full time resident and indulged in his hobbies of woodworking and cattle-raising as long as he was physically able. He had been a member of Jewett UMC since 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Cally Taylor, his granddaughter Sarah Kate Taylor, a son, Clayton Taylor and daughterin law Ginger Taylor. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Cozy Taylor of Jewett; son, Clinton Taylor & wife Susan of Montgomery; daughter, Karyn O'Meara & husband Thomas of Jewett and Freehold, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Matthew and Cheyne Taylor, Heather Johnson and Allison Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Lorien Johnson; other relatives and friends.
