With thunderstorms wrecking havoc on the ball game schedule late last week, the Buffalo Bison only managed to get in one game -- but it was a good one. Tuesday's matchup with Onalaska was moved from a home game to a road trip at the last minute, in order to accommodate the Bulldogs' conflict with their livestock show. More ... Heavy rain in the area last week hampered outdoor sports. Friday's games in Anderson Shiro were postponed to this week, and Tuesday's games were played only because they'd been rescheduled to Onalaska to make way for the Polk County Show. More ... After a two-week hiatus for bad weather and Spring Break, the Bison track team returned to action on Thursday, competing in the Centerville Relays against a strong field which included Madisonville, Centerville, Teague, Leon, Trinity, Groveton, Franklin, Normangee, Lovelady and Onalaska. More ... The Buffalo Lady Bison track team placed second in a field of nine Thursday night at the Centerville track meet. The Lady Bison accumulated 102 points throughout the meet and edged out Trinity's 101 for the runner-up plaque. Centerville won the meet with 138 points. More ... On Thursday, March 26, Hilltop WGA hosted their "Ladies of the Lake" Interclub Tournament. Although the weather threatened to postpone this fun event, the game was played and turnout was very good. After playing 18 holes in the drizzle and wet conditions, members met at the Overlook Restaurant for lunch and awards. More ... The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches has announced their TABC All-Region Team for Region III, Class 2A. Three area student athletes were selected to the prestigious team: Buffalo High School's Jami Davis, Centerville's Ashley West, and Leon's Chelsea Padgett. More ... The major girls from Buffalo won the regional Little Dribblers Tournament in Normangee over the weekend, qualifying for the National Little Dribblers Tournament in Nocona on April 15-18. The team, coached by Leah Jones and Jennifer Hays, is comprised of fifth and sixth grade girls who attend Buffalo schools. More ... Anyone following the Oakwood Lady Panthers knows that they have been a powerhouse in basketball this year, despite being a very young team. Coach Lori Shead led an outstanding program and has three of her own daughters who play on her team. This week Coach Shead announced the 2009 basketball honors for her team. More ... |
