Nelson wins 5K in Huntsville
Chad Nelson Chad Nelson of Buffalo was the overall winner in the 1st Annual Ronald Run For a Reason 5K held Saturday, 3/21 in Huntsville, Texas. The 3.1 mile race began at the Intramural Field at Sam Houston State University and proceeded through the challenging hills surrounding the SHSU campus. Approximately 200 runners participated and proceeds from the event benefitted the Houston area Ronald McDonald House.
The fundraiser was sponsored by the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and the club members were on hand to cheer and dance to motivate the runners. That was apparently effective on the 17-year-old Buffalo High School senior. Nelson had run the course in 21:50 in a Seven Hill Running Club race last summer, but he finished Saturday in 18:37 -- beating the rest of the field by over a minute. "It was a challenging course, but still my hard training and determination paid off!" stated the Defending Champion.
The Bison's distance man's next goal is to "improve my time dramatically at the Centerville meet next week", in preparation for the 21AA district track meet the following week, where he hopes to qualify for Regionals.
