District 21AA honors basketball standouts

Van'Go'photo With all District 21AA teams eliminated from the State Playoffs, coaches have released their 2008-09 All-District selections.

Buffalo junior Jordan Canady earned a spot on the FIRST TEAM ALL DISTRICT, along with Centerville's Clay Hardee. Completing the team were three New Waverly players, Sir Horace Saulsberry, Kyren Watts and Tyren Watts; Onalaska's Matt Schryer, Chris Hooper and Steven Arnet; Corrigan's James Pickle, and Trinity's Larry Simmons.

SECOND TEAM ALL DISTRICT honorees included Buffalo seniors Kirby McNair (#30) and Chad Nelson (#3) and Centerville's Devin Smith (#4) and Johnny Cloud (#23). Rounding out the Second Team were: New Waverly's Kolton Snow, Corrigan's Tyler Martin, Onalaska's Troy Long, Anderson's Travis Tomkivits and Groveton's Randy Brock.

HONORABLE MENTION members included Buffalo's Saxton Sims, Centerville's Bobby McEachern and Michael Gwosdz, three Trinity players, one Groveton player, two from Onalaska, three from Corrigan and three from New Waverly.

New Waverly dominated the DISTRICT SUPERLATIVES. Bill Goffney of New Waverly was named Coach of the Year. District MVP honors went to New Waverly's Joe Karrington (#23), and his teammate X'Zavious Harrison (#12) was named Offensive MVP. Corrigan's #4 Chris Dreighton was selected Defensive MVP. Newcomer of the Year honors were split, with Buffalo Junior Micah Burnside-Jones (#5) getting the nod, along with Trinity freshman Jacoby Mitchell (#11).
