Parrish Reunion at the Lone Star Community Center

By Sherry Matney

Sherry's Shots What better place to have a family reunion than in the very community where you were raised, your parents were raised, your grandparents and great-grandparents were raised? On Saturday, March 21, members of the George A. and Frances Parrish family and the Enoch and Hancie Parrish family met at the Lone Star Community Center to recall old times and get caught up on current happenings.

George A. and Enoch N. were two of nine children born to Enoch Smith and Louisa Parrish. The elder Parrishes moved to the Flo area of Leon County around 1860.

Enoch N. Parrish was born in Flo and was a Baptist preacher for most of his life. His wife, Lettice Hansford (Hancie) was an accomplished musician who sang and played the piano and organ. The couple had two children but only one son, Vermillion, grew to adulthood.

George A. was also born and raised in Flo. He married Mary Frances Boykin, from Flo as well, and they set out to raise six children, all of whom reached maturity .

And from these seven Parrish offsprings came the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who met, talked, laughed and ate at the old school in Flo last Saturday.
