Local teen leader seeks support to attend Washington D.C. conference

Leon High School Junior Anthony Ormsbee has recently been nominated to serve as the 2009 National Youth Leadership Conference Texas Representative. Anthony will attend the NYLC June 20 - June 29, in Washington D.C.

The theme of NYLC is The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today. The Conference is a unique leadership development program that invites high school students based on scholastic merit, community involvement and leadership contributions to interact with today's leaders. Conference scholars work through many issues facing our country today in a series of simulations. Students also meet face-toface with members of the U.S. Congress or their staff as well as other influential personalities. The NYLC is sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council.

Anthony is a Leon FCCLA chapter officer and a UIL participant. Attend ing this program will enable him to further his leadership development and become a more active youth in our community. "By attending this conference I will be able to learn how our government works and how I can make a difference in our world," Ormsbee said.

Anthony is not sponsored by his high school and has to raise his own funds. The Conference tuition is $2415.00 and his travel to the Conference will be around $200.00-$300.00. Anthony is now conducting a fundraiser to help pay for the conference as well as working part time after school. If you would like to donate to his trip you may do so by sending your donations to: Anthony Ormsbee Jr., PO Box 157, Marquez, Tx, 77865.

If you would like to find out more about this dynamic organization, the NYLC or CYLC you may do so by contacting Anthony Ormsbee at 903 208 0214.
