Centerville ISD approves contracts for teachers

By Sherry Matney

The Centerville ISD Board Meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Library on March 11, 2009.

The board went into Executive Session at 7:45 to discuss personnel matters. After returning to open meeting, the board approved contracts for the Leon County Special Education Cooperative as recommended by Ralph Carter, Director. The board also approved elementary teacher contracts as recommended by Jason Jeitz, Principal; Junior- Senior High School teachers as recommended by Bob Loomis, Principal; and Central Office Staff as recommended by Cathy Nichols, Superintendent.

Assistant Superintendant Carole Dickey reported the health insurance premiums for employees would increase on September 1. After conducting a survey of districts, she found Centerville paid more on insurance than surrounding districts with the exception of Oakwood.

Dickey also discussed the salary survey she is currently working on. A comparison of salaries to districts approximately the same size and makeup is being developed and recommendations will be considered this summer. The district currently pays $1000 above base for certified teachers with an additional 4500 for those with a Masters Degree.

The board approved a request by Oland Hopkins to use the old gym for the Douglass Alumni Tournament on April 10 & 11. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to award outstanding athletes of Centerville Junior-Senior High School with scholarships and to fund the alumni organization.

Student transfer, Tony Sepulveda, was approved for the remainder of this school year.

Superintendent Cathy Nichols informed the board of the resignations of Jon Hobson and Wayne Allford at the Junior-Senior High School Campus.
