Leon County Cooks: The beauty of whole wheat bread

      About eight years ago my daughter-in-law, Kari, began making whole wheat bread. When we had a family get-together she always brought several loaves to share. Before long I found myself comparing the bread from the grocery store to Kari's bread and the "store bought" bread came up extremely short.

Local teen leader seeks support to attend Washington D.C. conference
      Leon High School Junior Anthony Ormsbee has recently been nominated to serve as the 2009 National Youth Leadership Conference Texas Representative. Anthony will attend the NYLC June 20 - June 29, in Washington D.C. The theme of NYLC is The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today.

Centerville ISD approves contracts for teachers

      The Centerville ISD Board Meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Library on March 11, 2009. The board went into Executive Session at 7:45 to discuss personnel matters. After returning to open meeting, the board approved contracts for the Leon County Special Education Cooperative as recommended by Ralph Carter, Director.

      What a week! We had our Resident Council Meeting on Monday with a very good turn out of residents present. We got a lot accomplished. We played bingo in the afternoon, Tuesday Brother Spurling was here for his regular service, and we had a lot of fun with dominoes in the afternoon.

City of Oakwood adopts new ordinances

      The Oakwood City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 10 with all council members present. Oakwood Chief of Police Oly Ivy was asked in a previous meeting to submit some of the most needed ordinances which will help make Oakwood a better place to live.

      There is an event coming up called "youth basketball mania and it will be from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday March 28th and promises a lot of tired but satisfied youngsters after playing all of that basketball. Following that on Sunday March 15, 2009will be fifth Sunday and there will be a meal on Sunday afternoon and no evening service on that day. .
