Panthers bow out at Regional semifinal
      The Normangee Panthers fell to the San Antonio Stacey Eagles 75-62 on Friday March 6 in the Region lV semifinal game. In a decisive third period the Panthers were outscored by 16 points. They could not overcome the deficit in the last eight minutes and lost by 13 points.

Normangee Lady Panthers defeated in overtime
      The Normangee Lady Panthers suffered a 62-53 defeat in overtime to the Sudan Nettes on Thursday March 5 in the state semifinal game in Austin. Senior Jessica Green picked up three fouls in the first 6 minutes of the game and had to play cautiously the rest of the game to keep from fouling out.

Lady Bison fare well at first meet
      Coach Daryl Skelton and the 2009 track team opened the season with some success last Thursday at the Groveton track meet. Buffalo brought home some hardware from the meet as well as encouragement for the season ahead. Returning the entire team from last season's successful run, the Lady Bison track team has increased due to move ins and freshmen.

      WGA Results On March 5, 2009 WGA held its first play day of the 2009 season. A Nine-Hole Scramble was the game of the day and everyone who came out had a great time. Thirty-one players participated. 1st place winners - Barbara May, Helen Prejean, and Linda Hambrick shot 40.

Local rodeo athletes compete well as season winds down
      REGION V BHS senior National Champion competed in two qualifying rodeos over in Region V, where he took a first and a second in BOYS CUTTING. Champion is the event leader after ten rodeos. REGION IX Leon County BARREL RACERS were a hot item at Rodeo #11 at Crockett on March 1.

This week in Bison baseball
      continued to hone their skills in pre-district play last week as they competed in the Leon Varsity Baseball Tournament. Buffalo faced 3-A Madisonville in their first game. Travis King pitched the entire game for the Bison, but BHS came out on the short end of a 6-8 final.

Lady Bison claim second in Longview Tournament
      The Lady Bison hit the road over the weekend to compete in a tournament in Longview to wrap up preseason play. Buffalo was well represented in the East Texas area as the Lady Bison scored four wins and a tie in pool play to advance to the championship in the silver bracket. In a tight contest, the Lady Bison fell to Arp 3-1 to finish in second place.

BHS power lifters wrap up 2009 season
      The Bison Powerlifting team finished the 2009 season with the Regional meet on Saturday. Aurelio Dominguez finished 7th, despite nursing a thigh injury, and Neftaly Soria represented the Bison at the 123-pound division. Alternate Jared Hawthorne did not get to compete.

Track season in full swing
      Spring sports are keeping BHS athletes fully engaged, with several attempting to participate in multiple sports or multiple events. Senior Chad Nelson, for one, had a busy week. On Thursday he was the lone representative of the Bison men at the Groveton Relays meet, where he won the twomile race with time of 11:03, a personal best.
