TDA Market Recap March 2, 2009
      AUSTIN - (Mar. 2, 2009) For the week ending Feb. 28, 2009, feeder cattle price trends at Texas auctions were mixed, from $4 lower to $5 higher per hundredweight. Fed cattle prices were $2 higher. Cotton prices continue to fall because of weak global demand. Corn and grain sorghum prices were higher as gains early in the week more than offset later declines.

      USCA (March 3, 2009) - The U.S. Cattlemen's Association (USCA) today commended U.S. Representatives Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) for their introduction of legislation to protect the nation's livestock industry from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

Irons family contributes to 50th Anniversary Livestock Show
      Gene and Dixie Irons, along with daughter Lori, have quite a reputation for raising prospect show steers from their crossbred cattle operation in Oakwood, Texas. Raising prospect steers demands a combination of good bulls and good cattle, both of which they have on their ranch.

We Need Rain!
      If things do not change dramatically for Texas over the next six months, we all are going to be talking more and more about drought. All of us in the Pineywoods have had it pretty good, we have been blessed with rains that the other parts of Texas only dream of. For instance, my father-in-law in Central Texas, grows 200 acres of Winter Wheat each year.
