Perry, Lillie F. West, and Bobbye Bullock celebrate Black History Month at the LCRTA February meeting. The Leon County Retired Teachers Association met for their February meeting on Wednesday, February 25 at the Municipal Building in Centerville. The 12:00 meeting began with a delicious luncheon served by February host and hostesses: Al Campbell, Carol Ball, Dorothy Bottoms and Beth Jones. The tables were decorated with lavender table coverings, centerpieces of tall vases filled with pansies. The centerpieces were later presented as door prizes.

After the enjoyable luncheon the business meeting was called to order by president, Bobbye Bullock. Joyce Meyers acted as secretary for Ruby Vest in January and read the January minutes. Ruby Vest was present to resume her duties as secretary and recorded the minutes for the February meeting.

Treasurer, Mary O'Banion, gave the treasurer's report. She reported on the proceeds received from the LCRTA Valentine's No Bake Sale. Letters were sent to those members not attend- ing the January meeting inviting them to participate in the 2008-2009 LCRTA Valentine Fund Raiser. The support received by LCRTA members was greatly appreciated. It is not too late to respond and participate in the fund raiser if members have not done so.

Zach Sanches, Association Member Benefits Advisors with United Teacher Associates Insurance Company, spoke to the members concerning Group Long-Term Care/Home Health Insurance; Medicare Supplement Insurance; First Diagnosis Cancer Insurance; Cancer and Dread Disease Insurance; Single Premium Tax Deferred Annuity; and Final Expense Life Insurance. All of these plans are endorsed by the Texas Retired Teachers Association. The information provided was very informative and pertinent at this time in members' lives. Several members made appointments to meet with him individually to talk more about one or more of the plans. Any TRTA members interested in hearing about these optional benefits can contact Mr. Sanches at zsanches@amba.info or call 281-796-7184.

LCRTA officers for the 2009-2010 year were nominated by the Nominating Committee composed of Mary O'Banion, chairman; Virginia Crabb and Birdene Perry. All officers will be returning with the exception of the position of secretary. Joyce Meyers was elected as the new secretary for 2009- 2010.

Dorothy Bottoms announced that the AARP was holding a Driving Safety course on March 16 in Buffalo at the Senior Center from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The cost is $12.00 for AARP members and $14.00 for non-members. Call Dorothy Bottoms in Jewett for more information or look in your local papers.

Door prizes were won by Tom O'Banion, Virginia Crabb and Jacqueline Mathews.

The March meeting will on Wednesday, March 25 at the Municipal Building in Centerville at 12:00. March hostesses are Jane Ann Durbin, Margaret Heggins and Ruby Vest.
