      WGA golf results March 5 - Don't forget that March 5 is our 1st Play day of 2009. Sign up by noon on Wednesday, March 4 for a 9-hole scramble and lunch to follow. Chili will be provided. Interclub Tournament: February 26 - Our first Interclub tournament of the year was held at Elkins Lake.

N'gee Lady Panthers head to state in basketball -- Panthers still in the hunt, too
      The Normangee Lady Panthers won the regional tournament and advances to the state tournament in Austin to square off against Sudan at 10:00 am Thursday March 5. If the Panthers win they will play for the state championship on Saturday March 7. This is the first time the Lady Panthers have advanced to the state tournament.

Tiger Cub Relays pit junior high students in track and field events
      The BJHS boys, who established themselves as a force to be reckoned with by barrelling through both the football and basketball seasons, started off the 2009 track season with another strong performance. Both the 7th and 8th grade teams took second place at the Tiger Cub Relays in Centerville on Friday afternoon, behind 3-AAA Madisonville.

Bison battle New Waverly for win
      The Buffalo Bison suited 10 freshmen, 3 sophomores, and 2 juniors in a jv baseball game at home vs. New Waverly on Friday. The game went 6 and 2/3 innings before night set in. Buffalo carried a 6 to 4 lead into the top of the 7th. New Waverly rallied and scored 3 runs to take a 7 to 6 lead before the umpires called the game due to darkness.

Leon Lady Cougars fall to Kountze in the regional semi-finals
      The Leon Lady Cougars defeated the Woden Lady Eagles 69-52 on February 24 in a quarter final match but fell to the Kountze Lady Lions 48-42 in a semi-final game on February to bring an end to a very successful season. The Lady Cougars went further into the state playoffs than any previous team in the school's history.

Buffalo Major Girls finish second
      The Buffalo Little Dribblers Major Girls Team received a second place trophy at the 10th Annual Tyson Ives Basketball Tournament in Mart February 20-21st. The girls won Friday against China Springs and Saturday morning against Mart. They went on to lose Friday night against Cen-Tex Blue Crush.

All-District Honors announced
      District basketball coaches met at the conclusion of the regular season to vote on post season honors. District runner up Groveton and third place representative Trinity both bowed out of the playoffs with overtime losses at the bi-district level. District champion New Waverly won the area round, but fell to regional champion Kountze in the regional quarterfinals.

Buffalo powerlifters qualify for Regionals
      Coach Clay Hodges' Bison powerlifters competed in the final meet of the regular season last week in Navasota, and three lifters have qualified for the Regional Meet in Frankston on Saturday, March 7th. Jared Hawthorne, Aurelio Dominguez and Neftaly Soria will be representing BHS at Regionals. Congratulations and good luck, Guys!

OHS Lady Panthers fall in regional finals
      The Oakwood Lady Panthers faced a district foe in the Neches Lady Tigers in the regional finals in Nacogdoches on February 28 and suffered a 32-25 defeat. The two teams had tied for the district championship and both had won games in the playoffs to reach the regional finals.

Bison open season with a Win
      After warming up with several scrimmages, the Bison baseball team travelled to Normangee on Thursday for their first game where they faced a partial Panther squad. NHS was still in the hunt for state basketball playoffs so much of their team has not switched to baseball mode and the visiting Bison were able to stampede through the game.

Lady Bison win Leon Tournament
      The Lady Bison improved their record to 11-1 with five wins in the Leon Tournament this weekend. The only loss came at the hands of Teague on Tuesday. Buffalo met Bremond, Wortham and Lovelady in pool play on Thursday. The Lady Bison picked up three wins to advance to bracket play as the number one seed.

Bison men open track season at C'ville
      The Bison men competed at the Centerville Relays on Thursday, February 26th. In Varsity action, distance man Chad Nelson was the top finisher for BHS, taking a first place in the 3200M run (11:22) and a 3rd in the 1600M (5:10).
