THSRA Region V and X Rodeo Updates

11 Buffalo's Dakota Champion competes in REGION X, and he had a big day in McGregor at Rodeo #6, where he finished in the Top Ten in all three of his events. Champion finished 2nd in STEER WRESTLING with a 16.00 take-down, and he continues to lead that event. He also placed 3rd in CALF ROPING with a 12.660, and teamed up with Megan Vincik of Liberty Hill for a 16.330 catch in Team Roping, good for 7th place.

The next Region X rodeos are in McGregor on February 28 and March 1.

Over in REGION V, area rodeo athletes have been having good success. At Rodeo #5 in Nacogdoches on January 10th, Oakwood High School Lisa Stevens was on her "A" game. She finished 3rd (16.280) in BARREL RACING in a field of 69 competitors, and 6th (8.820) in GOAT TYING.

Buffalo High School senior National Champion also had a couple of good rodeos recently, with several Top Ten finishes. At Rodeo #5 he placed 9th in CALF ROPING (12.330) and was finally cleared to compete in STEER WRESTLING. Champion placed 2nd in the bull doggin' with a 5.020 then at Rodeo #6 on January 11th, Champion finished 7th in the event with a 6.690.

Rodeos #7 and #8 took place at Marshall on February 7 and 8. Champion and Taylor Dudley of Marquez teamed up for a 22.540 catch good for 9th place in TEAM ROPING at Rodeo #7, and improved on that at Rodeo #8 with a season-best 10.210 good for 5th. In STEER WRESTLING, Champion got 5th (8.30) and 7th (11.300). At Rodeo #7 Stevens got 3rd in BARRELS with a 16.383, and 5th in POLE BENDING (21.440). She improved on that at Rodeo #8 with a 4th place in Poles (20.648).

In CUTTING competition, National Champion has scored one 1st and three 2nds, and Taylor Dudley has a 2nd and two 3rd-place finishes.

Next up: Region V Rodeos #9 and #10 will be held in Lufkin on March 21-22.
