JV Bison men slip in district contests at home

In Junior Varsity action at BHS on Tuesday, the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs came out guns a-blazing and knocked down two 3-pointers in the opening quarter to lead the Bison by one, 9-8. Buffalo went stone-cold in the second quarter and the Bulldogs extended their lead to 20-10 at halftime and were up by 12 going into the final period. BHS' offense came alive in the fourth quarter and the Bison closed to within 4, but C-C took the win, 35-29.

Dylan Laningham led the Bison with 12 points, followed by Creagor Elsom wih 8. Ethan Laningham scored 4, Austin Rayborn 2 and Nathan Jones and Colten Morman each added a freethrow.

VS TRINITY

The JV Bison men hosted the Trinity Tigers on Friday evening in the final home game of the 2009 season. THS had run away with the game in the first round of district play, but the Bison played a much better game in their second meeting and gave the Tigers a run for their money before conceding the contest, 48-51.

Buffalo jumped out to the early lead. Ryan Read joined the line-up and drained the net for a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter, and Dylan Laningham popped in 8 points from the low post, giving BHS a 15-8 advantage after the first period.

Things went sour for the Bison in the second quarter and they were only able to add a pair of free throws by Ethan Lansford, while the Tigers poured in 19 points to take a 27-17 lead into the locker room.

After the break Laningham and Lansford were playing big under the basket the Bison were able to chip away at the deficit and BHS had closed to within five as the contest went into the final quarter. Austin Rayborn led the Bison with 7 points in the fourth and BHS were able to close to within three points, but the Tigers took the win, 51-48.

Laningham posted a double/ double to lead his teammates, with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Read finished with 13 points, Rayborn 7, Lansford and Creagor Elsom 5 each.

The Bison wrap up their 2009 season with New Waverly at New Waverly on Tuesday, February 17.
