Bison powerlifters setting high goals

Joseph Lewis and his teammates are working hard to prepare for their competitions. Van'Go'photo The Bison powerlifters, coached by Clay Hodges and assistant Coach Jerry Russ, have been putting in some tough training in preparation for their spring sport. Their work has been paying off with success at their meets.

MADISONVILLE MEET

In JV competition at Madisonville, Calvin Young took first place at 132 lbs, and D.J. Jackson took 4th in the same division. Joe Brewer placed 5th place in the 123 lbs weight class. Among the big men, Josh Carillo finished second in the 198 lbs division and Alejandro Montano was second at the 242 lbs.

Other participants were Harley Eakin, Michael Cardenas, and George Baker. As a team, BHS took 4th overall out of six teams, although it was the only 2A school in the meet and our youngsters were competing against 3-A and 4-A schools.

ELKHART MEET

The Bison also enjoyed good success at a meeting in Elkhart. Jared Hawthorne (220# class) finished 2nd, and Alejandra Montano (242# class) finished 4th. Other lifters competing were Aurelio Dominguez, Jorge Herrera, Josh Carrillo, Calvin Young and Bubba Baker. All lifts improved their totals.

Van'Go'photo All Hawthorne's success at Elkhart moved into into the Top Ten, which qualifies for Regionals. Also qualifiying at previous meets are: Aurelio Dominguez and Neftaly Soria, both in 4th place in their respective classes.

The next meet is February 21 in Mexia.
