Letters to the Editor Dear Editor, I have often been surprised to learn that some of our citizens have never been our library. February is "Love Your Library" month and as a long time board member and avid user of the library, I want to brag on it and also inform people. It has come a long way from the tiny trailer home that was up near the Post Office. Since moving to the building near the civic center, Sandra Dawkins (our long time librarian) and her volunteers have made a very attractive place. One large room is full of childrens books by many of our young readers. The Summer Reading Program starts in June. Also, the Head Start Program uses the library as a monthly field trip. Another service is the provision of computers for people to use. The largest room is full of many hard back and paper back books. Many are donations from local people. Sandra has done a good job of acquiring a variety- not only popular fiction but other s like Christian Novels and the following: Good Housekeeping Handbook, Black and Decker Photo Guide to Home Repair, Kowels Antique and Collectors, Giving by President Clinton, Power to the People by Ann Coulter, Fleeced by Duk Morris, Eat, Pray and Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (this was on Oprah's list). I encourage all to visit our library. We can be proud of such a good one for this small town. Sincerely, LaVerne Dunaway |
