The Lady Tigers ran up against a very quick and speedy New Waverly team and were defeated 80-38. The Tigers trailed by nine after the first period but that deficit increased to twenty by half time, 16-36. The margin ballooned to twenty-six beginning the fourth quarter and the final margin was fortytwo 80-38. More ... Before a standing room only crowd in the Oakwood gym the Lady Panthers got revenge by defeating Neches 58-50. Oakwood had lost to Neches on January 3 in Neches for the only defeat in district for the Lady Panthers. Neches was ranked Number 2 in the latest state poll and Oakwood was ranked Number 3. Neches is extremely fast but could not match the height of the Panthers. More ... The Centerville JV Lady Tigers won a low-scoring game 25-10 against the New Waverly Lady 'Dogs in Centerville on January 27. Both teams had trouble scoring but the Lady Tigers led by three at the end of the first quarter and by nine at half time. More ... The Oakwood Panthers dug themselves a big hole in the first half by scoring only twelve points and falling behind Neches by seventeen at half time. The Panthers rebounded in the second half and outscored Neches twenty to eighteen but lost 47-32. The poor start cost them dearly as they could not overcome the seventeen-point deficit. More ... Both the seventh and eighth grade Bison basketball teams are dominating the district. The guys continued their winning ways with victories over Centerville on January 22 and over Anderson Shiro on the 29th. More ... The Centerville JV Tigers had trouble finding the basket and fell to the Bulldogs 51-14. The Tigers fell behind by nine points in the first quarter and by fifteen as the first half ended. The Tigers had trouble hitting their shots in the second half and scored only five points to leave the final score 51-14. Joshua Wright led the Tigers in scoring with five points. More ... The Lady Cougars defeated the Hearne Lady Eagles and the Franklin Lady Lions to clinch at least second in District 20-AA and maybe first if they can defeat Marlin in Jewett on February 10. Marlin is undefeated in district and handed the Lady Cougars their only district loss in a game played in Marlin on January 23. More ... Tiger vs Corrigan-Camden The Centerville Tigers traveled to Corrigan-Camden on January 23 and lost another close one 47-41. The Tigers fell behind by four after the first period and still trailed by four at half time, 14-18. They lost ground in the third quarter and trailed by seven entering the last period. More ... The Cougars visited the Franklin Lions on January 30 and came home a loser 66-51. The Lions started off fast and jumped to a 12-2 lead early in the first quarter. The Cougars fought back and pulled to within eight points as the first period ended. The Lions had a good second quarter and led by nineteen at half time. More ... The woes of the Junior Varsity Bison men continued on Tuesday as they suffered their third consecutive loss, this time at the hands of the Onalaka Wildcats. This one was more heartbreaking than usual, because the Bison had the upper hand early on but watched things fall apart. More ... The regular season ended last Thursday night for junior high basketball teams, and the Lady Bison ended with wins. The seventh grade won 44-11 over Anderson-Shiro while the eighth grade won 33-28. Buffalo will compete in the district tournament in New Waverly this weekend. More ... The Lady Bison used a huge first quarter to secure a big win over Onalaska last Tuesday. Buffalo scored a season high twentythree points in the first quarter on their way to a 59-40 win. The junior varsity had earlier set the tone with a 31-6 victory. More ... Athletic Director and Head Coach Mike Heckathorn proudly announced the names of two Oakwood Panthers who were named to the Honorable Mention All State Football team. Michael Savage and Geral Williams were both selected to the defensive team for Six Man Football. More ... Buffalo High School's Chad Nelson was spotlighted last week on KBTX-TV's feature, "Classroom Champions". Several minutes of the January 29 news show were dedicated to the multi-talented BHS senior, chosen for his scholastic and athletic achievements. More ... The season's frustrations were multipled last week as the Bison, still short-handed but playing gamely, saw their playoff hopes crumbling as they suffered losses in two heartbreakingly close games. VS ONALASKA Tuesday night's varsity men's game between the Bison and the Onalaska Wildcats was loaded with drama. More ... The Lady Bison basketball teams capped off a successful week with wins in Centerville Friday night. The junior varsity outscored the Lady Tigers all four quarters on their way to a 25-9 win. The varsity game was hard on the nerves, but the Lady Bison pulled out a 55-44 win. Three games remain in district play. More ... |
