      AUSTIN - (Jan. 26, 2009) For the week ending Jan. 24, 2009, feeder cattle price trends at Texas auctions were mixed, from $3 higher per hundredweight to $6 lower. Profit losses at feedlots and volatile grain prices contributed to the uneven markets. Fed cattle prices were lower as beef prices declined.

RRC Production Statistics and Allowables for February 2009
      AUSTIN -- The Texas average rig count as of Jan. 16 was 693, representing about 47 percent of all active land rigs in the United States. In the last 12 months, total Texas reported production was 345 million barrels of oil and 7.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Texas natural gas production represents approximately 29 percent of total U.S. natural gas demand.

      DECEMBER PERMITS TO DRILL The Commission issued a total of 1,226 original drilling permits in December 2008 compared to 1,760 in December 2007. The December total included 1,068 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 30 to re-enter existing well bores, and 128 for re-completions.

Argentine Foot and Mouth Disease Bill Reintroduced in Congress
      USCA (Jan. 28, 2008) - The U.S. Cattlemen's Association (USCA) today hailed the reintroduction of legislation in the U.S. Senate that would block meat shipments from Argentina until that country is free of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), an airborne livestock disease that is devastating to livestock production.

      COLLEGE STATION - There's an emerging star in the super-food world. Plums are rolling down the food fashion runway sporting newly discovered high levels of healthy nutrients, say scientists at Texas AgriLife Research. Plainly, "blueberries have some stiff competition," said Dr. Luis Cisneros, AgriLife Research food scientist.
