Members of Buffalo's AARP enjoyed a potluck dinner and fine fellowship at their regular monthly on January 20. A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the chapter's annual donations to local organizations. Recipients of $100 checks included: The Lord's Pantry, Leon County Domestic Violence Victims' Advocates, and the Buffalo, Flo, Jewett and East Leon County volunteer fire departments.

Oncor Services' Brenda Walker gave an enjoyable program on simple measures to improve energy efficiency in your home. The moneysaving tips were made more fun with a bingo-style presentation and some nice prizes.

BVFD Chief Shaine Reeder gave a brief appeal for support of a petition to again put an Emergency Services District for northeast Leon County (ESD #4) on the next ballot. The push comes on the heels of Palestine Regional's announcement that they will be pulling their ambulance service out of the area later this spring.

Sarah Nabours of the U.S. Census Bureau made a plug for census takers. Interested in the temporary, parttime job? Qualifying tests will be offered February 4th at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Celebration Church.

The club celebrated the January birthdays of J.R. McKenzie, Gene Morgan, JoAnn Cockrell and Nadine Lenox. Wain Glass won this month's door prize, a $10 gift certificate to Dickies, donated by A.L. Helmcamp.

AARP meets on the third Tuesday of each month at noon at the Buffalo Civic- Center. Guests are welcome, so if you are over fifty, retired, ("or just tired!") come check it out. You might learn something and we promise a good meal and a good time.
